What is PACE?

PACE (The Professional Association of Childbirth Educators) will exist to
accredit and support practitioners of Childbirth Education.
Additionally it will offer basic and further training to the highest standards.

Why is it needed?
.PP
At the moment, Childbirth Education is provided by many professions, in both
the medical and voluntary (lay) sectors as well as other, independent training
bodies.
There is no organisation for C.E.'s alone and limited communication between
practitioners across existing boundaries.

PACE membership will be drawn from every type of practitioner.
Antenatal teachers who work within the NHS as midwives, physiotherapists or
health visitors, from those who work for voluntary organisations such as the
National Childbirth Trust and the Active Birth Movement and those antenatal
teachers who work independently.
Membership of PACE would in no way affect membership of or involvement with
other organisations.
PACE seeks to be a multi-faceted organisation linking teachers from different
backgrounds and training, so that cross-fertilisation of ideas can raise
standards of practice and enhance the quality of antenatal teaching nationwide.

Currently, there is no single standard for the profession and consequently
slight recognition of or credibility for its practice.
PACE, by offering externally validated training would hope to develop
standards which would increase the credibility of both the profession and the
individual.

organisations have a need for:
