We have GEM kermit which runs off the desktop on atari STs. It just does kermit and maybe has a simple terminal emulator built in. Uniterm is in the public domain; versions 1.6g onwards have a built-in kermit of which I have heard complaints. I Use PC-Intercomm which is not in the public domain (hem hem) which works fine for me. It certainly seems to be true that it is a lot easier to transfer stuff down the line to the micro than the other way round, from the micro to the host. This is partly because at speed greater than 600 baud effective transmission rate, you are liable to overrun the PAD which will disconnect you. (Known technically as "being sick up the line so the PAD throws you off".) I never got GEM kermit to transfer up the line to vaxen - ah! Vaxen! yes. Kermit is only installed and working on Lab vaxen. Not Orions. This can cause some frustration and borrowing of logins. I haven't really transferred much upwards; that which I have I did with PC-IC which is not really fair on those who don't have it I suppose. My bet would be to try the kermit built in to Uniterm.
